Dev Diary #1

So I've been working on this game for about a month now. No idea when it will be done, as it's hard to predict timelines when you only get to work when the baby takes his naps. But considering how far I've gotten in the last month, I would think by the end of the year.

So who am I?

I'm a former Lead Animator at Telltale Games (Sam and Max 3, Tales of Monkey Island, The Walking Dead, and Game of Thrones). I took time off from the industry to have some kids, wrote an interactive novel for Fable Labs, and now I've spent the last 4 months learning C++ and Unreal so that I can make my own games!

So what's the game?

Dreamscape Chase! A puzzle game where your character, The Dreamer, must travel through multiple levels while solving simple puzzles to open gates, all while being chased by the nightmarish Chasers, who suck your life away when they draw near. You begin on a single tile floating in the emptiness of space, and each tile you travel to spawns a new one, the trick being that some have walls that prevent you from having a straight path to your destination.

So far I have all the base functionality - Chasers chasing you and dealing damage, tiles spawning and dealing damage (and boy, was that tile spawning a headache to figure out. A future devlog will go over how I did it so all you experienced programmers can laugh at my solution). Most recently, I've been working on making it pretty because it made me happy. Next step is creating all the mechanics for opening the gates and other pickup items.

Coming soon - more devlogs on the interesting stuff I already did and the stuff I have yet to do! See ya then!
